Don’t Ignore Child Anxiety

It is necessary to understand the emotional needs of the child if we are to stop anxiety in children. It will take the cooperation of the family and the school to produce the best results for the child. Therapy is always a good idea. Sometimes medication will be necessary to get the situation under control and help the child cope.
Patience and understanding are imperative. You may think a child does not have stress, when in fact it is very difficult to be a kid. Peer pressure and adult expectations can be overwhelming for a child and should be taken very seriously. If anxiety is not treated in children it can cause serious psychological problems that will follow them as adults.

If you suspect your child is suffering from anxiety, you should speak to your medical professional immediately.

Children and Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety can be truly heartbreaking when you see children having a breakdown because of it. It can be very difficult to stay calm when your toddler is having a kicking and screaming tantrum when you try to leave them at Day Care, PreSchool or even just at the baby sitters for an hour or two. Understanding what your child is going through and having a few coping strategies in mind can go a long way toward helping both of you get through it.

Staying calm is always key. But being prepared can make all the difference in the world. If you can make several visits to the new school or day care prior, it won’t be so unfamiliar. Always return when promised, specify a time when you will return and stick to it. Since most toddlers don’t really understand time, tell them you will be back after lunch or after story time. They will relate better to this than just saying you will be back at 2:00.

Practice being apart from each other, and introduce new people and places gradually. Remember it is normal for children to have separation anxiety, but the way you deal with it will determine how serious it becomes.

Anxiety Slow Down!

Busy lifestyles congested with a multitude of every day tasks leaves all of us feeling very stressed and full of anxiety. The fact is the more stressed we are, the less productive we become. My mother has had a little wall plaque in her kitchen for years that says ” The Hurrier I Go The Behinder I Get”. How true it is.

It may seem impossible to stop and smell the roses, but unless you find the time to do so voluntarily, you may find yourself forced into it when you have caused serious health problems.

For years I would get home from work, make dinner, rush through so I could clean up and do what, more chores. I didn’t take time to talk to my family about their day. It seemed all I did was rush through my day so I could get to the next task. My mind was always one step ahead and never seemed to shut down.

Then one day the fog lifted and I wondered what the heck I was doing. I walked around tired all the time and just didn’t seem to be happy. I knew I needed a change. I prioritized my life. I took time to enjoy my family and friends without constant worry over how much I could accomplish today.

In short, SLOW DOWN! Yes, life is a busy business, but somewhere in it you have to dig down deep and find a bit of time to take that deep breath and breathe!
